After many years in the customer service industry, starting at 12 years old working in a convenience store (and before then delivering newspapers), I have found some of the facts and fictions about customer service. When it comes to dealing with the customer we are always taught that the customer is always right. That is a bunch of hogwash! If a customer goes into McDonald's and orders a Whopper, are they right? No. It is our job to be sure that we educate the customer and make them right. Should we make the sale and never talk to the customer again? No. Many companies spend too much time trying to get new customers that they forget about the ones they already have. This is why we implemented the Sub Club Card at Subway. Sure, we gave a free sub away, however that was after the customer (the current customer) already bought 12 of them. I will go through many interesting stats, facts and figures about customer service and how you can retain customers and clients for ever.
