About Linda Ockwell-Jenner

Linda Ockwell-Jenner has founded two successful small businesses.

Motivational Steps—a professional speaking and consulting business that drew from her experience of a wide variety of challenges to inspire others. Shortly after finding success with Motivational Steps, Linda and Co-Founder Dave launched the Small Business Community Network (SBCN), an organization dedicated to helping other businesses find their success through relationship building and networking.

With two startups under her belt, Linda focused on writing—releasing two books through Motivational Steps. She continues to speak to audiences internationally and has grown the SBCN over the past 11 years to be one of the most well respected business networking organizations in Canada.

Linda is a sought-after mentor, offering advice to the small business community, and beyond through both the SBCN and Futurepreneurs, with whom she volunteers as a mentor to young entrepreneurs.

Partnership with TELUS

At TELUS, small business is a big priority as we understand the challenges that you as small business owners and entrepreneurs face every day. We work hard to help you leverage technology to increase productivity, decrease costs and generate new revenue, allowing you to focus on your core business. We are excited to partner with Small Business Community Network,  and look forward to connecting with you to determine how TELUS can help your business.

Mentorship Benefits

Mentoring has tangible business benefits:

  • 70% of small businesses that receive mentorship survive for 5 or more years, double the rate of those without mentors.
  • Small businesses that receive mentoring are 20% more likely to experience growth than those that don’t.

In addition, it can sometimes be difficult to find a mentor with the experience and credibility that is accessible. The Small Business Mentor in Residence program provides access to this expertise.

So what can a mentor provide?

  • Bring a fresh perspective
  • Act as a sounding board for new ideas
  • Develop new business skills
  • Advice based upon first-hand experience
