 I just finished reading [this article](http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6729565.stm "Article in full") on the BBC News web site. A study conducted by Carnegie Mellon concluded:

> **People will pay more for goods if a website does a good job of protecting their privacy.**

Wow... so protecting information within your company is not only great to keep you out of the news for the *wrong* reasons, but it actually allows you to boost your revenue. Now who would have thought?

On a serious note, I have been saying for some time that good information security practices equate to good business. You can actually use your good practices to differentiate your business in the marketplace. Of course, make sure it's not an empty promise and that you genuinely do all you say you'll do!
